💀 I’ve been thinking a lot about death. And no, it’s not just because I’ve been slipping back into my goth phase after watching the video for Marilyn Manson’s new single Raise the Red Flag. It’s because I’m worried that we’re going to see Hollywood’s Brightest Star die onscreen in the near future.

Did anyone else watch the 2024 Paris Olympics’ closing ceremonies? In case you missed it, the broadcast featured Tom Cruise (star of films like The Scent of Money and Cocktail) jumping off the danged stadium to claim the Olympic flame and bring it home to Los Angeles.

Tom Cruise famously does his own stunts. He’s jumped out of cars, out of airplanes, out of cars falling out of airplanes, and out of motorcycles chasing cars falling out of airplanes (that last one might be fake – for now). It’s thrilling – but it’s got me feeling anxious.

Maybe it’s just PTSD from seeing WWE Superstar Owen Hart and NASCAR Legend Dale Earnhardt die on TV in a 20-month period when I was in High School.

Now, both of those were equipment failures of one sort or another, and both led to major changes within those industries, but still.

I don’t want to see Tom Cruise die on TV – and I don’t think Tom Cruise wants that either, but deep down inside, I think he thinks I want to see it. Either way, he’s keeping stunt actors (and insurance agencies) in business.

Alright, that’s enough weird stuff from me for this week (oh wait, no, there’s definitely more weird stuff in the newsletter.) Keep reading, and always double-check your safety harnesses.

Alright, let’s freaking go.
