📝 How-To
How to Prevent Accidental MacBook Trackpad Swipes
Ever lose hours of work to an accidental two-finger swipe on your MacBook?
Same. Last week, one clumsy gesture nuked my entire newsletter draft. After countless rage-fueled promises to fix this, I’ve finally had enough. Here’s how to stop it before your next meltdown.
The quick fix:
Open System Settings (or System Preferences)
Click on Trackpad
Select the More Gestures tab
Either:
Uncheck "Swipe between pages" completely, or
Change it from two fingers to three fingers
Chrome Users Extra Step
Chrome might ignore your system settings. To disable swipes in Chrome specifically:
defaults write com.google.Chrome AppleEnableSwipeNavigateWithScrolls -bool FALSE
Then restart Chrome.
Quick Recovery Tip
If you've already lost work to an accidental swipe, try the browser's forward button immediately - your content might still be there!
For permanent protection, consider tools like Rewind for Mac that can recover lost work by recording your screen activity. Learn more here.
